What Makes Crème Brulee Special?

“Burnt Cream” doesn’t sound too appealing, does it? But that is what Crème Brulee means in French. In fact, this sweet, caramelised treat has a long history that stretches all the way back to the 17th century—yep it’s that old!

This dessert is beloved for its contrast of textures: a silky, velvety custard topped with a crackly caramelised sugar crust. A lot of people enjoy that tasty crack that it makes as they smash a silver spoon through the caramel—a crack they’ll never forget.

Its simple but elegant appearance paired with its sweetened yet indulgent taste makes Crème Brulee a fan favourite in fine dining and home kitchens alike.
