Agar Agar Jelly Recipe Without Gelatin

Agar Agar Jelly Recipe Without Gelatin

How to Make an Agar-agar Jelly Recipe Without Using Gelatin

Introduction

Jelly is a great snack and an even better dessert to add to your repertoire. Not only does it taste sweet and light, but it’s also got a fun wiggle and texture that makes it different from the normal desserts in your growing cookbook.

In most cases, jelly is made with gelatin—and that’s where it gets the name. The only problem is that gelatin is a by-product of meat. Usually created from animal collagen, gelatin is by no means an option that is vegan-friendly. So, this delectable and wiggly dessert has always been elusive to the vegan palette—until now!

This is where Agar-agar steps up as a vegan savior, and we couldn’t be happier. Agar-agar is a gelatin alternative that is crafted from seaweed. Also known as plant-based gelatin, agar-agar is the perfect substitute for creating a jelly recipe that is authentically and truly vegan.

This blog will take you through the recipe and teach you how to make vegan jelly so that you no longer have to worry about whether gelatin will ruin that sweet, jelly-eating experience.

If any of your desserts call for a jelly addition, you can use this recipe to bring that need to life. With this vegan jelly recipe, you will learn how to make a vegan jelly that is fruity, perfectly textured, jiggly, sweet, perfect for use in desserts, and only requires 4 ingredients!

Let’s take a closer look.

Instructions for Cooking Your Vegan Jelly Recipe

The following instructions are pretty straightforward and easy to follow. You might be thinking that making red vegan jelly and green vegan jelly might be different—it’s not!

The only difference between the two recipes is the addition of green food coloring. Let’s take a closer look to get you started on cooking your vegan jelly recipes.

Instructions for Red Vegan Jelly Recipe

  • Step 1: Add the agar-agar powder, fruit juice, water and sugar to a pot on the stove.
  • Step 2: Stir the mixture regularly to keep the mixture evenly distributed.
  • Step 3: Wait for the mixture to come up to boil for 2 minutes.
  • Step 4: Pour out the mixture into your desired serving bowls or glass and refrigerate to allow the mixture to set.
  • Step 5: Take out your set of vegan jelly and enjoy your dessert.

Instructions for Green Vegan Jelly Recipe (1 extra step)

  • Step 1: Add the agar-agar powder, fruit juice, water and sugar to a pot on the stove.
  • Step 2: Stir the mixture regularly to keep it evenly distributed.
  • Step 3: Wait for the mixture to come up to boil for 2 minutes.
  • Step 4: Turn off the heat after the mixture simmers and add green food coloring, stirring until it is evenly distributed.
  • Step 5: Pour out the mixture into your desired serving bowls or glass and refrigerate to allow the mixture to set.
  • Step 6: Take out your set of vegan jelly and enjoy your dessert.

Notes to Keep in Mind for Your Vegan Jelly Recipe

  • The green food coloring is only an optional step to add a little zest to your green vegan jelly. This is because the natural color of the green will be cloudy rather than green due to the natural color of the green apple juice.
  • Add the food coloring drop-by-drop in order to get the right color for your vegan jelly dessert. Depending on the brand of food coloring—the strength of the color can vary. Stay on the safe side and take it one drop at a time.
  • This recipe serves 2 cups of vegan jelly dessert. Adjust the measurements to accommodate larger groups.
